The Review Of Design Museum

There are two main exhibition in Design Museum now.In the first floor,it's the brit insurance design of the year."The Oscars o f the design world ,"showcase the most innovative and forward thinking design from around the world.

I like two of them works. The first one is the Folding Plug by Min-Kyu Choi. His re-design of this everyday object makes it fit for the twenty first century.I think this works is very common trial in everyday life. This re-design work very functional , very beneficial to people's lives. It is simple and beautiful that very suitable for modern design of the 'less is more' concept.

The second one is Blown-fabric Lanterns, Japan--Nendo.This work use special materials smash that can be manipulatedint different forms through hot press forming technology.Mutation of the virus using the fungus to elaborate the concept of the significance material.Materials not hesitate to large-scale replication, so each model is different.I like the beauty can not be copied.

In the sencond floor, the subject is Sustainable Futures. It presented around five themes:Cities,Energy,Economics,Food,Materiality and Creative citizens. It shows the changing role of the designer and reveals how design can make a difference. My favourate work is Adeventure Ecology--David de Roth child. All the materials used by a fully recyclable material. It is very usefull for sustainable futures.

Overall, this exhibition shows a very good concept what is good design .It provides a good source of advice for our essay.

Surrealism paragraph

There are several different definitions for the surrealism. It can be explaned as “a 20th-century literary and artistic movement that attempts to express the workings of the subconscious and is characterized by fantastic imagery and incongruous juxtaposition of subject matter”(Macmillan Essential Dictionary, 2003). It hold firmly to the belief free our mind in order to Bring about a fantastical, dreamy condition where the imagination and critical capacities of the “unconscious mind” are highlighted (wwww.wikipedia.com, 2006). Collina (2002) lays emphasis on other usages .It refers on how the term is also used not formally to express changing ‘juxtaposition’ or ‘non-sequiters’ that emerge in dialog or the world of art. Moreover, the writer take into consideration that how the surrealism used in critical way.

The essay plan

Title: “The difference between art and design lie not so much in how they look as in what they do . ” ( Brady ,1998 ) How far do you agree with this statement?

Approach : By analysis the similarities and the differences between art and design. The same point is that art and design are produced. It also draws parallels between art and design that the distinction is not clear in contemporary society .There are two differences . First of all, art and design face a different audience. Furthermore, the functions of art and design is also different. Design needs to solve problems for people. My view is supported by Brady's idea, so I think art and design is different.

Paragraph 1
same
Main Idea: -- Artists and designers are productors. The key to art is organizing emotion. The key to design is organizing information.
Evidence: -- Although the art and design are creating new things, but art is the artist organized his own feelings to create works , design is the designer's under the conditions that people demand to organize design product.
Source: -- The purpose of art and design. (e.g. how to make arts and design.)

Paragraph 2
Main Idea: -- Although there are many different from art and design .But it unnecessarily to isolate them completely.
Evidence: --Art having a provoking purpose and design having a practical purpose. But in modern society ,like any thing ,that can be changed too , because the line is painted so thin.
Source: -- Same Difference?

Paragraph 3
difference
Main Idea: -- Are sends a different message to audience . Design sends the same message to audience.
Evidence: -- Art and design have different audiences. Art is the artist to illustrate their own idea to the audience . But the audience can understand the idea of the artist or can also have their own unique view of the art work. Each viewer's could have different understanding of art works , even can be the opposite review. Design work is only to present the idea of designer and it have the only feature. Audience only have the consistent view.

Paragraph 4
Main Idea: --Design without a client is art . Art without a client is indulgence. Designed to serve the people.if design is about business , you always design for client.
Evidence: --Artists do not need to Comply with the client's requirements and constraints to create art works, but designers must be within the scope defined by the customer . Design products imitate by function.

‘What design is and why it matters’ (http://www.designcouncil.org.uk/about-design/What-design-is-and-why-it-matters/)

Conclusion: -- I agree with Brady’s views, though the demarcation line between art and design is not very clearly, but there are still differences between art and design. So we can not say that art is the design or the design is art. Both of art and design have a very clear distinction. Art and design to bring the idea to different audiences. Audience Justice art work can have a variety of different ideas, but the identification of design works have the same standards there. In addition, art can not be created under the client's limitations, but the design must limit by customers demand. So I think that art and design is significantly different.

Introduction : There is indeed a great amount of thing that can be discussed about the topic of the difference between art and design for a long time. Many artists and designers often use visual methods to make art works and design works. Thus the distinction between art and design in the present of people's minds is not very clear. But I think art and design is different. I would like to discuss the following four points to discriminate art and design.

The Surreal House Review

‘The Surreal House’ which is hold in Barbican Art Gallery. It is the first time to explore the relevances between surrealism and architecture. The exhibition describes the senses of surrealism by variety kinds of the imaginations. It revolves the surrealism to curation of the exhibition.

The Surreal House shows about 150 imaginations art works including the first generation Surrealists such as Dali, Duchamp and Giacometti. Not only are there the artistes with their architectures but also with more specifics of the houses.

The downstairs gallery is used to represent the inside of a house. The visitor could ‘see’ the house in the curation of the exhibition that is defined by sounds, lights and installations. They are all designed to affect the solipsistic sense. All of the art imagines the whole house. The architecture builds the house comes from Rebecca Horn’s Concert for Anarchy (1990). The sculptures describe the house by many works. The presented works is Metal Fucking Rats by Tim & Sue(2007). The main inspiration is ‘consistently inconsistent’ which is a representation of real life. The films perform the house, such as ‘Meshes of the afternoon’ by Maya Deren(April 29 1917). The narrative of the film repeats a number of psychological symbolic images. The film is the only work I spend a long time which is the most interesting artwork as I think in the exhibition. It is illusion of a woman’s dream. When the woman was walking back to her home she saw someone on the street. Then she went into the room and felt asleep. In her dream, she repeatedly tried to chase a mysterious hooded man but she can not catch him anyway. She also re-renters her room and saw many household objects such as keys, knives, flowers, a telephone and a phonograph. It’s a vested show and the overall impression is so organization and fresh. I would love to say I fancy the colour of the film and those rhythmic repeated scenes.

On the upstairs there are lots of wonderful works from different art styles. Such as Salvador Dali’s Sleep (1937) and Roberto Matta’s Cosmic Architecture.

To sum up, The Surreal House exhibition is quite interesting and the form of the exhibition is extraordinary, pioneering and experimental. I quite like the way of the exhibition and the most of art works in the show, even I just browse around. If I have any extra time in the future, I think I will go to the Surreal House again. And I would like to recommend it to my friends, it is the time to find out by yourself.

GOOD DESIGN IN THE DIGITAL AGE

SUMMARIZE:

The definition and evaluation of 'Good Design'.Good design is good business. The good design is a phrase from the past .It's nit only focused on narrow selection of good designs. In the past the definition of good design was 'solidity ,commodity and delight.' In the past good design didn't consider context of use ,especially daily life.Today, greatest change in good design. The good design not just visual but also engage the user community by humanizing technology. The wrong idea is that many people thought design mean veneer.

Designers need to build consumer's trust. First ,the product must be usable.Second ,the designer must understand the human needs and the limitation of users in order to engage users. The first encounter with product is not only usability which alone is not enough to create trust but also need to create desirability. The method to achieve this is to learn the relationship with marketing experts and add cultural expressions.

The conclution of the good design is balance of usefulness, usability and desirability.

London Game

There are 2 respect I want to talk about.
First, London is a long history country.I like the old things come from London .Maybe sometimes I could heard of the old things are talking about their history. Also I think everything has the life ,and they just can't says like people.I like the old street ,old door, doorplate, especially the Manhole Cover.
The Manhole Cover could show the different district because the details are not the same.I want to make it like a monopoly.

Second,London is a big city for strangers, absolutely including me.So the city looks like a big maze for me.It's strage ,puzzle, and exciting for me.So I want to make the works look like a monopoly.

On the upstairs there are some wonderful works from different art style. But curators gambit peters out upstairs by the reasons of the surrealism-architecture link is revealed such as Salvador Dali's sleep(1937).

The Surreal House exhibition overall effect is interesting enough, and the exhibition form is a fresh game attempt. Myriad levels of ideas that are there for exploration and the quantity of material on display .
